Visit to Boeing Japan in Tokyo, Japan

On December 19, participants of the Overseas Study Seminar I (Seattle, USA) visited Boeing Japan to meet Mr Jon Lilja, Senior Manager Supply Chain Development, APAC, and Ms Ryoko Matsumoto, Communications Manager, where they engaged in active discussions and exchanges of views on leadership, innovation, supply chains, and organizational culture at Boeing, from both Japanese and U.S. perspectives. The visit was also accompanied by Dean Takamichi Hosoda, Associate Professor Yuta Hirose, Assistant Professor David Nichols, and Assistant Kayoung Kim, who joined the discussions alongside the participants.

Boeing is the largest exporter in the United States and a leading company in the aerospace industry, with core businesses spanning commercial airplanes, defense, space and security and services. Since establishing its presence in Japan in 1953, Japan has become Boeing’s largest supplier base outside the United States. In addition, Boeing opened its first research and development center in Japan in Nagoya in April 2024.

This visit was conducted as a preparatory initiative for a planned visit to Boeing’s manufacturing facilities in Seattle in 2026. The visit was made possible through the introduction of Ms Ryoko Matsumoto, an ABS alumna and Communications Manager. We would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere gratitude. We look forward to further collaboration between ABS and Boeing in the future.
